Fort Collins, CO (November 6, 2019) – A pedestrian accident on Benthaven Street claimed the life of a Lopez Elementary School Student on Tuesday.
At 8:40 a.m. on November 5, the Fort Collins Police Department was called to the scene of a pedestrian accident near the Lopez Elementary School.
According to reports, an elementary-aged student from the school was attempting to cross the roadway, in a crosswalk, on Benthaven Street when they were struck by an SUV.
The 23-year-old driver of the SUV was stopped at the intersection of Wabash Street and Benthanven Street at a stop sign. As the driver proceeded through the intersection, they struck the child.
The injured child was rushed to an area hospital for treatment. Sadly, authorities confirmed the victim later succumbed to their injuries.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
