Park County, CO – 8-Year-Old Killed in US 285 Collision

Park County, CO (December 24, 2019) – An unimaginable collision on US Highway 285 sadly claimed the life of an 8-year-old child on Friday.

On December 21, the Colorado State Patrol reported to the scene of a motor vehicle accident at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Reports from police indicate that a 2004 Toyota Tundra was traveling south along US-285 when it collided head-on with a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The impact of the collision caused the Toyota to roll over 1/4 times before coming to rest on the driver’s side. The Hyundai then struck the guard rail on the side of the road.

The driver of the Toyota, who was identified as 56-year-old Shawn McGuire, sustained serious injuries and was transported via medical helicopter to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood.

The driver of the Hyundai, who was identified as 30-year-old Jacqueline Benns, was transported to Summit County Medical Center with minor injuries.

A passenger inside the Hyundai, identified as 28-year-old Adam Smith, was rushed to Summit County Medical Center with serious injuries.

Sadly, an 8-year-old inside the vehicle sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

At this time, police are investigating.
